Untangle the Web with the Power of On-line Literature Searching

An on-line literature search can be a powerful and cost-effective way to find publications on a subject you need to explore. WTS can save you time and money with a search of the appropriate databases to answer your research questions.

WTS can access the hundreds of subject-specific databases provided by Dialog and STN®. We're able to search many databases simultaneously to produce a powerful and comprehensive search for you. We also offer monthly or bimonthly current awareness updates. These searches help you keep up with the most recent developments in technology, or the latest US or foreign patents. They can be a valuable tool for competitive intelligence.

With many years of on-line searching experience, we can provide a quick and economical search for you. As with our document delivery services, we deliver the information to you fast-within 24 to 48 hours.

Some of the typical questions we receive:

· Recent foreign patents for diabetes drugs
· Market trends in the food flavoring industry
· Bioremediation of volatile organic compounds in groundwater
· New materials for hydraulic hoses
· Non-patent prior art searches.

How much can a search cost? Our experience and skill help keep costs down. Before we run a search, we'll discuss a cost limit that's comfortable for you. Most literature searches we perform average $100-150, and rarely exceed $200. And, you pay by the search- no deposits or subscription fees are necessary.

Contact us today-click "On-line Literature Searches" on our website's menu, and scroll down to the "Literature Search Request Form." Or, give us a call at 608/262-5913.

We're Not Just Tech, We're Not Just Wisconsin

What's in a name?

"Wisconsin TechSearch" may imply that we only serve Wisconsin and we only work with technical information.

Although WTS specializes in engineering and technical information, we utilize the strong collections of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, including:

  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Agricultural and Life Sciences
  • Engineering
  • Chemistry and Physical Sciences
  • Business and Law

And, just because "Wisconsin" is in our name, does not mean that we only serve Wisconsin clients or that we only use library resources in the state. Last year, about half of our clients were outside Wisconsin and we regularly obtain documents from outside sources.

WTS Helps Small Businesses

Wisconsin's small technology businesses now have access to one of North America's largest research library collections through a partnership program among WTS, the UW-Extension's Small Business Development Center, the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The Wisconsin Technical Information Partnership, WisTIP, is designed specifically for entrepreneurs and technology companies, and offers them access to information regarding science, business, law, medicine, and engineering. WisTIP also offers grants up to $500 to cover costs associated with using the service.

The businesses may use WTS for services including current science and technology literature searches, preliminary patent and trademark searches, and delivery of journal articles, reports, and patents.

For more information about the program, visit WisTIP at http://www.wistip.org.

New Staff

Rachel Watters joined the WTS staff as a librarian in October 2002. Rachel graduated from UW-Madison's School of Library and Information Studies in 1999, and worked for WTS from 1997-1999 as a student. After graduation, she managed UW-Madison's Interlibrary Loan-Lending operation until she came back to WTS. Rachel has a BA in History from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN. She's glad to be back at WTS and looks forward to the special challenges document delivery service offers.

Where We're Exhibiting

Carolyn Tweten, WTS Assistant Director, will take WTS on the road to the American Association of Law Libraries annual conference, July 12-16, 2003 in Seattle. Carolyn welcomes a chance to chat with clients, both current and future.
